Social Media, the Scroll and Tap and Write

I’ve been posting videos on social media lately as a way to promote Tap and Write Circles. It’s been an interesting experiment for me because I’m not sure that enough people see or hear me to get to “know, like, and trust” me, let alone leap at the chance to Tap and Write.

I recently came away from a meeting with coaches who expressed frustration and concern about the time they’re spending on posting, the algorithms that seem to make it harder to be seen, the lack of comments or “likes” that help create attention, and the constant passersby who don’t bother to stop or give them a follow.

Social media has become a machine, and many of the talented, experienced coaches and practitioners I’m meeting are leaving social media - and feel better for it.

I’ll continue to post on Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook for awhile as I’m just beginning to spread the word about Tap and Write Circles. But, I hear the complaints and feel the frustration already within myself. It feels like a crapshoot if I’m being honest.

As I came away from that meeting the other day, I couldn’t help but feel I needed to write. It’s what happens in the Tap and Write Studio - I sat down with a prompt I made up: “how does social media feel and what do you think about it?”

I set my timer for about 15 minutes - writing within a time frame helps to focus but it was also that I didn’t want to spend more time on this issue.

I used EFT Tapping to settle, calm the frustration I felt in the meeting, and then once I was ready, I put pen to paper.

Here’s what resulted:

The never-ending scroll, passing by those wanting to make their mark,

Sharing their faces and voices out loud, knowing their messages need to be heard.

If only you’d stop.

And, here I am, one who believes in her soul that life is better

When pens are put to paper and minds and bodies are calm through gentle taps.

We hope there’ll be more than one who stops the scroll and listens,

Who feels the energy of messages that are meant to draw you in, engage you, bring you into the fold, and are always left seeking more.

Will it be me you’ll stop for just a second to listen to my tale, told with authenticity and from the heart?

Will it be me you’ll leave behind as your finger pushes the screen ahead, not giving my face or words another thought?

What does it take to make you pause and hear the story through, A mere 2 minutes max?

What will entice you in to reap the gain of things you need to know?

How will you know unless you stop?

And so it goes, this endless scroll.

I’d love to know your thoughts about social media and have a love/hate relationship with it - what do you think about it? How do you feel about it? Please share your thoughts below or privately at coach@joanridsdel.com

This is my invitation to you to Stop the Scroll and slow down.
