Creating Meaningful Change One Step, One Word at a Time

I made a commitment to write at least one word per day in my journal at the beginning of June - I haven’t missed a day! It’s been an interesting exercise as I’ve notoriously been a fair-weather writer, writing only when I felt like it or I’ve needed to complain about something. Hence my journal entries have been mostly a sad tale to do with weight or disappointments or failed attempts to write regularly.

Since June 1st I’ve written more about my thoughts beyond complaints, sorted through ideas, documented activities, including family visits and beautiful moments, shared some dreams with myself and made some decisions.

On the days where time is shorter and I don’t have the space to sit quietly in the morning on the patio, surrounded by pots of colourful flowers and trees that calm my mind and body, I take a few minutes at bedtime to write - some days, but not many, I have written Good Night!, and that’s it (note that it’s more than 1 word!). I find myself going to sleep feeling satisfied that one more day has gone by and I’ve been true to my commitment - to writing and to myself.

It’s funny how one thing leads to another. Since June 19th I’ve been sending out The W.I.S.E.R. Woman’s Notebook weekly - something I struggled to do prior to changing direction in my business, which involves - you guessed it, more writing and the creation of The W.I.S.E.R. Woman’s Tap and Write Studio!

Even though I’m not completely clear yet about how this new direction will unfold and I’m still feeling the effects of the “messy” middle ie. the unknown, it’s interesting that taking one small action like writing one word a day, has had a ripple effect in other areas of my life.

Walking for 10 minutes after each meal and getting 6-8,000 steps in daily has been happening more and more. Adding more protein to each meal has been invaluable to feeling stronger and keeping me from nibbling. I’m more likely now than before to go to bed on time instead of finding every reason not to.

Just as EFT tapping has an accumulative effect on calming our minds and bodies, so do these simple and yet powerful steps as they create confidence within. They provide evidence that we are far more capable than we think of working through those moments, days, weeks and months of the “messy” middle’s challenges.

I’d love to know:

What is one small or simple thing or step you can take and commit to that you’ve been missing? What would support you in growing the evidence you need to increase your confidence, find deeper meaning or connect with your values more, and up your level of self-care?

Stay away from thinking big for now - think tiny, think 1 word, 1 step, 1 minute, 1 action! Don’t rely on willpower but instead just focus your motivation on getting your tiny step done each day and see what happens!

With gratitude and love,

Joan
